Even though I’m a dumb human with a lame power? [He’s mostly just fishing now but Isaac does know a lot of really cool people. It’s hard not to feel slightly lame in comparison.]
Oh. [Whatever he was going to say goes out the window at Isaac’s next admission. He holds him a little tighter.] You do? How do you get it if not with fangs?
I liked you even when I thought you didn't have any. [It's light but genuine, and he nuzzles into him as he adds:] I'd still like you even if you didn't.
Knives, mostly. [Dryly.] I haven't tested it much. Just -- another weird thing my body's done to adapt.
[Laughs again, a little breathlessly, lifting the hand around Isaac’s back to card through his hair. ] Yeah, okay, definitely not of sound mind then.
Cool, cool, cool. [There is really no normal way to be about this but it’s still coming off very poorly.] Yeah…weird. [Except that he certainly wouldn’t use that word to describe it, weighing his options on if it’s too weird to ask Isaac to feed off him. Probably. That may be a third date question and technically they’ve still only been on one.]
[He laughs a little, kissing at Dagny's jaw gently.] I think marrying someone I didn't like would be the bigger red flag, but I'm probably not the guy to ask. [Nor does he care all that much, honestly. No matter how much sanity he's got left, he's still gotta live with it. Might as well be happy.
He blinks a little at that reaction, slightly confused by the way Dagny says it.] Don't tell me this is the part that freaks you out. [It's mostly a joke, not all that worried about it. But maybe he is just a little bit.]
[Tilts his head up, encouraging more kisses like that.] True. And that was even drunk me. That’s probably the wildest version of me…hey, how’d you buy alcohol? [He really hopes that the answer isn’t that he himself bought it for Isaac. Buying a nineteen year old liquor only to marry him after he got drunk probably isn’t the best origin story they could have.]
Not freaked out. [His voice doesn’t sound freaked out, a little tight, maybe, strained, but not freaked out.] What would the opposite be? Because I think I might be that.
[He'll take the encouragement, pressing a few more lazy kisses against Dagny's jaw and throat, soft and affectionate.] I still have my old ID, it comes in handy sometimes. [He has newer documents too, fakes made up in case he ever needs something official, but it's not like a random bartender or store clerk is going to call his family. No reason to worry about using it for that kind of thing.]
Curious? [He sounds amused now, grinning a little as he considers.] Interested?
Is your name actually Isaac? [A curious question, not that he's upset. Old ID, new ID, he assumes that means that Isaac had to hide who he is to some extent.
He hums slightly in response to both Isaac's examples, smiling slightly.] Turned on? [He tilts his head down, capturing Isaac's lips in a kiss.]
Yeah. Some stuff is different on the new ones, but I just use my actual name most of the time. I don't have family anywhere near here, so I don't think anyone's gonna notice. [A shrug.
He leans into the kiss, drawing it out, grinning when it finally ends.] See, I thought it would lose something without the biting aspect.
Your family, like your parents? They don't know you're back? [Now probably isn't the time to be talking about his parents, considering it's in between kisses, but he's still curious. He'll try to pull back for long enough for that train of thought.
He rolls his eyes slightly, mostly at himself. Smiling a little sheepishly.] Alright, so you know my weakness is biting, somehow the idea is still enticing, even without that. [It's possible he's just a freak. Or maybe everything Isaac does is attractive to him.]
No. They don't know anything about this stuff, and it had been so long -- just seemed better not to say anything. [There's a little sadness there, but only a little. It's more like an idea than real people to him anyway, with his memories so messed up; it doesn't hurt too much to stay away.
He laughs a little at that, leaning in to kiss him again before he answers, lightly.] I'll keep that in mind when you're feeling better, then.
[Pulls back more, looking over Isaac's face, his brows furrowed.] They are your parents. I'm sure they miss you like crazy. [It's hard for Dagny to understand because he's got parents that love him and who he thinks the world of, but the idea of Isaac's parents being out there, not knowing their son is alive, that's heartbreaking.]
Wait, sorry. I just--[Puts a hand on Isaac's shoulder as he watches him. Whatever he sees in Isaac's gaze calms him down enough to take a deep breath, not getting ahead of himself.] Okay. Yeah, keep it in mind. Would you let me know or is it going to be a surprise..like should I prepare for it? If I eat something specific will it taste better? [So much for not getting ahead of himself.]
They had seven years to adjust. I don't think turning up on their doorstep and telling them I barely remember them is going to do anything good.
[He looks a little like he's going to laugh again, shaking his head.] I don't know, I've only tried it once. And I wasn't planning on just pulling knives out on you. I'll let you know.
Adjust? Isaac, you don't just adjust to losing a kid. They have probably been grieving for seven years. I wouldn't care if my kid came back and thought he was a cartoon dog, I'd just want my kid back. [He's trying to be gentle because he knows this is probably one of those things that Isaac has trouble remembering, but he must understand family to some extent, he seems to love his sister.]
[He's on a roll now.] No, of course not. I mean, I'd let you. I trust you. I know that water helps your blood. I wonder if sugar water would make it sweet. Or like dextrose. Would you want it sweet? It could be like a sweet and savory type thing. [Takes his hands back to gesture with them, moving them around as he talks.]
You might care if they were different enough. And then they have to know about all this, and -- I don't even know if they'd believe it. It's complicated.
[And a little bit scary to think about having to live up to the person he used to be. Even if that's not the most rational way to look at it.]
I don't even know if that would change anything. Maybe I can ask someone. [He shrugs, amused, leaning back a little as he watches Dagny gesturing.] I don't think it'll be a big difference, anyway. Blood is blood.
They don't have to know about all of it, we could figure something out. I'm sure the professor would help. I mean, if you want. I just...[Brings a hand up to Isaac's cheek, smiling softly at him.] I would never forget you if you disappeared. I feel like they probably haven't either.
But don't you want it to taste good. [Pauses, because blood probably already tastes good to him, makes a face as he rethinks his words.] Or taste better. Taste great?
You don't know that. People forget all kinds of things. [It's neutral, a fact and not an accusation. He sighs quietly, leaning into the touch.] Just -- not now. [It's not an agreement, but it's not a refusal, either. It's something he's going to have to sit and reconsider sometime, he's just not ready for it.]
I don't actually care what it tastes like, that's not why I'm doing it. [A little shrug, and he presses a kiss against Dagny's shoulder.] But I'm not saying I don't want it to, I just don't know how that actually works.
Does your sister still talk to them? You both don't talk about all this? [Not an accusation either, he just can't help but feel bad for Isaac's parents. He doesn't know the boy he was before but the man he knows now is incredible, even if he's different, he feels like they would want to know him.] Yeah, alright. [He'll drop it if Isaac wants, his thumb tracing over the shell of his ear as he nods.]
Oh. Well, it's a perfect opportunity to experiment. I'm basically the perfect guinea pig. Willing, and unkillable. [Unfortunately not unhurtable, but he's not so concerned about that. This is like the good kind of hurt, the kind he's asking for.]
She does. But, uh... we haven't talked about it in a while. [And it comes with its own complications. He relaxes a little at the agreement, though, leaning into the touch. It's not something he's completely unwilling to talk about ever, he just might need a little time first.]
Let's see what you think of it first before you volunteer yourself for repeat experiments. [Lightly.]
