You can be upset. It's okay. [Matter-of-fact. He relaxes a little bit as the medication starts to kick in with the next press, the edge of the pain beginning to dull, offering Dagny a slight, tired smile.] Everything's going to be fine. I've got you.
It's not okay. Maybe when you're better I can be upset, but not right now. [He smiles slightly, a small one, but more genuine, especially as Isaac seems to relax.] Okay. You've got me. [He lifts Isaac's hand to his lips again, pressing another kiss to his knuckles.]
[He shakes his head, but he's apparently committed to not arguing anymore, because he doesn't actually say anything. He won't blame Dagny for being angry, or being scared. It's exhausting to be on that side of things. Not that this is much better, either.
He tugs gently at Dagny's hand at the kiss, a silent request for him to come closer, his thumb passing back and forth over the side of his hand.] Yeah, I do. [Quiet and pleased.]
[At the tug he moves closer, making sure he isn't going to nudge Isaac or tug any tubes out before sitting on the bed facing him. He takes one of his hands back so he can use it to push Isaac's hair off his forehead, leaning up to kiss the space on his head he exposed, talking quietly.] Okay...just don't do it again. Please.
[His voice cracks again on the please. He can understand where Isaac was coming from, just seeing danger and acting on impulse, after all, that's literally ninety percent of how Dagny handles all his problems. He just can't bare to be in this position again, still feels like it's not actually real, like he could wake up and Isaac will be gone. He doesn't usually get this lucky.]
[He relaxes even further when Dagny's within touching distance, his good leg leaning against him, closing his eyes as he leans in closer. There's still a little pain, but it's dimmer, tolerable. Makes it easier to focus on the comfort of having him there.]
I'll try not to. [His voice is soft, genuine. He doesn't want to promise, doesn't know if he'll be able to fight it any better the next time, but he does mean it. He'll at least try to do it better, if it happens again, so that neither of them end up hurt.]
[He doesn't say anything, just presses another kiss to Isaac's head before leaning back down. He wants to beg, tell him that he literally can't go through this again, but he's pretty sure it wouldn't do any good right now. If he has to stop running into danger to make sure Isaac stays safe then he'll do it. He loves helping people, but he loves Isaac more.
He's quiet as he sits back down, moving his hand back to cover Isaac's in his, trailing it over his knuckles and around his wrist, up his arm, offering safe and comforting touch.] Feeling better?
Sort of. [A pause, as he appears to be genuinely considering, before deciding:] Better enough. This is so much easier.
[He shakes the button slightly to illustrate what he's talking about before setting it down, his other arm relaxed under the touches, holding on to Dagny loosely as long as he stays close.]
Not having all of this. Medicine is really useful. [Said earnestly, like Dagny might not be aware of it, the drugs really starting to fully kick in. It probably still will wear off faster than it should, but at least it just seems to be a matter of amount and not the drugs fully not working on him.]
Yeah, it is. [Said earnestly, and a little sympathetically, sad that Isaac had to go through this alone, and without analgesic.] I'll make sure you are as high as possible for this whole process. You won't feel a thing. [Probably not entirely true, but he will do his best to make sure Isaac remains comfortable, even when he's back home.]
Maybe a couple of things. It'd take a lot to get there. But it's okay, you'll take care of me. [He has utter and complete faith in that fact, and it shows, a little smile on his face as he watches Dagny.]
I will take the best care of you. [He agrees, smiling fondly and squeezing Isaac's hand.] I already gave you my blood. You didn't even have to drink it. [Lifts his arm slightly, not enough to really disrupt any of the holding or touching, just showing off his fun colored pressure bandage.]
Did you? [He's almost sure that's not how it usually works, but it's not like he cares. He runs his hand up Dagny's arm gently, squeezing his arm lightly below the bandage.]
Yeah. Maybe it’ll help you heal faster. [He’s pretty sure that’s not how his power works, but if it is, then he’s about to be a one man blood bank. He keeps still while Isaac grips his arm, pausing in his own movements so he doesn’t knock into any IVs.]
I think it already does. [Than if there hadn't been blood, is what he means, considering it a little too seriously for a moment. Trying to figure out his own biology is a little bit strange sometimes, but he's pretty sure that one still holds. His hand drops back down to cover Dagny's, fingers closing over his lightly. For all that he feels the need to hold onto him, he doesn't feel like he has to cling; he's not really that worried that Dagny will leave.]
Yeah, okay. [Gives just a small little laugh at how literally Isaac took that before trying again.] But my blood is magic. And now you have some too. [Goes back to running the fingers of his free hand up Isaac’s arm, following along the line of his vein as he talks.]
[It makes him smile wider, unable to help it under Isaac's flirting. Not that he doesn't always have a compliment or two handy but it's different when he's like this, less reserved, being purely honest.] If it helps, I'll give you all my blood. I'll make you super instead.
Mm. That doesn't sound like a good deal. I'd rather you keep it. [He moves to try to lift Dagny's hand so he can kiss it, but his grip is a little clumsy, and he just lets it fall back down to the bed after a few moments.]
[He’s not entirely sure what Isaac is trying to do when he lifts his hand so he just leans forward and presses a soft kiss to his lips, hoping that’s something close to what he wanted.] Do you need anything? Are you thirsty?
[He brightens at the kiss, reaching out with his other hand to catch Dagny's sleeve. He's not really thinking about the way he's hooked up to things, just trying to keep him close.] Yeah. I think? [He tilts his head a little, considering, before adding almost apologetically:] Everything feels weird.
[Carefully, and gently, he moves Isaac’s hand, taking it off of his sleeve and putting it back on the bed, but staying close, his hand going into Isaac’s hair to brush through it softly.] I know, it’s okay. I’m here, and you’re safe, and the weirdness just means everything is working.
[He tries to keep his voice sounding nice and calm and comforting, so that Isaac will know everything’s fine. He knows it can be stressful for him to not know what is going on, or to feel like he’s not in control, he doesn’t want him to feel any anxiety about the pain medication doing it’s job.] You’re doing great. You’ll be better in no time.
[The good thing about the pain medication is that it also has him a little too out of it to feel stressed about everything. It's just hard to read his own signals. Especially given sometimes that's hard for him when he's fully coherent. There's a weird feeling in his throat and his mouth, he's not sure if it's thirst or something else.]
As long as you're here. [This is the exact thing he was trying to compensate for before, but that doesn't change the fact that he means it absolutely genuinely. Dagny's presence is grounding, it makes him feel more stable. And it makes it harder to forget when and where he is, even when the pain kicks up, which makes it less likely he'll freak out and try to hide.
Besides, it's nice not to be alone again for something like this.]
I’m here. [He repeats it again, still running his hand through Isaac’s hair even though he has to lean forward to do so. He’d rather be able to make Isaac comfortable than worry about his own comfort.
After a few moments, he presses the call button, asking the nurse for some water when she comes in, and an extra blanket, just for good measure, these places always run a little cold, he doesn’t want to risk Isaac needing one later. He doesn’t move from his spot, even when the nurse comes in, not really wanting to get up until absolutely necessary.]
[It's a relief when Dagny doesn't move, because the presence of a stranger makes Isaac tense a little, his heart picking up again. It's not that he really thinks anything's going to happen. But for so long, the best way to stay safe when injured was to avoid everything as much as possible, and it's hard to shake that completely.
It's just a little, and slowly he starts to relax when nothing happens, his hand loosening around Dagny's. But he's still mostly silent, watching until she leaves despite his clear lack of alertness thanks to the drugs.]
Love you. [It's a quiet murmur, once they're alone again.]
